Updated BVCA Guide to Responsible Investment

The BVCA has released an update to its Guide to Responsible Investment. In addition to updating the content of the Guide, the new edition also features a supplement Evaluating ESG Issues at the Pre-Investment Phase.

The publication, originally published in 2009, seeks to improve firms' understanding of environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks and opportunities, showing how these can be managed within a structured investment framework.

An effective responsible investment approach requires a focus on ESG issues throughout all phases of every investment, from pre-investment diligence, through active ownership, up to the time of exit. The BVCA has worked in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and Waterman Group PLC to produce a new edition of the BVCA Responsible Investment Guide and introduce a supplement addressing in more detail the first of those phases - Evaluating ESG Issues at the Pre-Investment Phase.

We hope that firms find this a useful tool and would welcome feedback on how the Guide can be improved as we continue to introduce additional supplements and finesse the Guide. Please forward your comments to ehartman@bvca.co.uk.
