Allan Wells MBE is a former Scottish athlete who won medals nationally and internationally for his record-breaking performances in track events.
Allan started out as a triple jumper and long jumper before moving to the sprint track. In 1974 he was Scotland's indoor long jump champion. However it was his sprint performances that put him firmly on the world stage.
Having won the 100m and 200m at the UK Championships in 1978, Allan went on to triumph in both again at the Commonwealth Games (1979). Then it was at the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1981 that he picked up the gold medal for the Men's 100m (and silver in the Men's 200m). He also won the IAAF Golden Sprints, World Cup and European Cup that year.
Allan is an ambassador for London 2012 and Glasgow 2014.
