Iwan Thomas is the British 400m record holder and an Olympic silver medallist. A former BMX champion and England Schools rugby player, he came to athletics late. In his first meet he won the 100m, 200m and 400m races, as well as the long jump and high jump; shortly afterwards he equalled Seb Coe's middle distance student record.
Iwan quickly rose through the ranks and established himself as the leading British 400m competitor. He won silver in the 4x400m relay at Atlanta and came fifth in the individual final. Then, after breaking Roger Black's long-standing record, Iwan went on to win three individual gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, the European Championships and the World Cup.
