Best Practice Financial Modelling

This course will train you in the skills of robust model building.  The programme assumes basic competency in Excel and accounting. By the end of the course, you will:

- Be faster and more efficient in the use of the Excel tools used in modelling
- Have a clear method for building reliable, robust and flexible models
- Understand design principles and best practice
- Be efficient in spotting inconsistencies when auditing other people's financial models
- Have a set of tools for analysing and sensitising financial models

You will need to provide your own laptop with excel throughout the course.

This course is recognised as a registered CPD accredited provider with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). 13 CPD hours.

Content

This course will build on excel skills that will allow you to develop rigorous financial models and get the most from third party models. Key skills will be covered in the course such as scenario management techniques; switches and text wings to make models clear and flexible and data validation to control inputs. You will progressively build an integrated balance sheet, profit and loss and cash flow forecasting model for project analysis, company valuation, debt structuring and capital structure optimisation.

Target Audience

Delegates should have a basic level of excel skills and accounting knowledge. Even intermediate and more experienced modellers will gain from learning techniques to improve their efficiency, speed and flexibility.

Alice Mitchell BSc (Hons) ACA

Alice holds a biochemistry degree from University College London and qualified as a chartered accountant with the forerunner of KPMG.  Alice subsequently joined the Pearson Group where she worked for the Financial Times, analysing the performance of its Scandinavian divisions and allocating funds to start-up operations.

Alice specialises in accounting, credit analysis, valuation and particularly financial modelling. She began teaching in the 1990s, and her friendly approach, clarity, professionalism and concern for the individual have given her an unrivalled reputation.

Alice works with a huge variety of clients, including regularly presenting to investment bankers at the likes of Citigroup, HSBC and Rothschild, as well as private equity houses and corporate clients.  As one of CTG's senior financial modelling tutors, she also leads public courses where she has taught hundreds of people from a variety of backgrounds and professions to construct, review and enhance their financial models. The quality of delegate feedback is testament to Alice's capability and ability to provide attendees with the practical skills they need, in a way that is refreshing, interactive and enjoyable.
