Barrie joined NEL as Chief Executive in 1991. Before that he had been Managing Director of two Berisford Bristar plc companies and also has extensive experience of venture capital with Yorkshire Fund Managers Limited, where he was Senior Investment Manager.
During his time with NEL and YFM, Barrie has been involved in some 60 equity transactions, mostly in a lead capacity. A chemical engineer by training, Barrie joined Shell from university as a petroleum engineer before becoming Group Economist for Ocean Group plc after obtaining his MBA. He has also run his own business in both manufacturing and consultancy.
