The BVCA is working in partnership with the African Venture Capital Association (AVCA), the South African Venture Capital Association (SAVCA) and sponsors to bring together general partners from Western Europe and Africa, institutional investors and specialist service providers.
In contrast to other regions amidst the financial crisis the private equity and venture capital industry in Africa has seen significant growth over the past few years. According to figures from Preqin the private equity industry in Africa was responsible for $2.6bn of investments in 2011 compared to $0.89bn in 2010. The consumer and financial services sectors are seeing particular growth. Such growth demonstrates the potential for both local and international funds focused on different sectors and sizes of investment. This is why not only European and North American firms such as KKR, Actis and The Carlyle Group are investing but also Asian firms such as Hony Capital. The decisions of governments and regulatory bodies will also play a key role in determining the environment for the private equity and venture capital industry to develop.
The forum will focus on the opportunities and challenges for local and international GPs and LPs as well as portfolio companies across the continent. The event is the penultimate in the BVCA's International Series developed in partnership with Citi, Debevoise & Plimpton, Greenpark Capital and KPMG.
