Independent Vetcare (IVC) is one of the largest veterinary practice groups in the UK.
Founded in 2011, the Bath-headquartered business was set up by working vets from the consolidation of several large independent veterinary groups from across the country.
The veterinary services market is highly fragmented which spawned the idea for the company. With the backing of August Equity, IVC was set-up with the acquisition of three veterinary businesses in Bath, Hertfordshire and Bristol. Since then the number of practices has risen to more around 540, including more than 180 in the Nordic region and Central Europe.
IVC provides marketing services as well as a greater purchasing power for drugs and equipment for smaller vet practices. The business enables local practices to retain their independence while centralizing administrative functions and support services at the group level, allowing vets to focus on delivering high-quality care.
Summit Partners invested in the company in July 2014 and has undergone rapid growth, both organically and through acquisitions. By carefully building a reputation based on ‘what is good medicine rather than good business’ it continues to acquire new practices, consciously not building a national brand and remaining sensitive to the local market.
EQT acquired the business from Summit in January 2017 and merged it with Evidensia, a Swedish veterinary group.
