The Fund Management Career Toolkit

The BVCA is the home of UK private equity and venture capital training with decades of experience supporting the industry through our wide-range of professional development programmes. We have drawn on this expertise to develop a technical competence framework, aligned to our suite of courses, to assist those pursuing, or seeking to pursue, a career on the deal team of a private equity or venture capital firm.

Following extensive consultation with our membership, this toolkit reflects the current needs and requirements of our industry, and provides a comprehensive guide to the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to successfully advance within it. This is by no means a mandatory set of rules or objectives, but rather a reference tool for BVCA members, both for organisations and individuals within deal teams at our member firms.

The technical competences in the toolkit describe what people do in their roles and the standards they should maintain continuously throughout their career. These are sometimes also known as functional competences or professional standards.
