The British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA) has today published its ‘Adapting with Purpose’ multimedia package, produced in collaboration with Grant Thornton UK LLP.

The package, comprised of a new report and a set of three videos, identifies 24 firms, from across a diverse range of sectors, that responded in exemplary ways to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Every company featured in the report adapted to the health crisis on multiples fronts and the publication highlights action in the following areas:

  • Community initiatives: where firms went above and beyond to support their communities, particularly in areas hard hit by the challenges bought on by the pandemic..

  • Team support: where firms found innovative and meaningful ways to look after their employees as they adapted to new and unusual ways of working..

  • Adapting business models: where firms were quick off the mark to ensure their expertise was used in a way that supported COVID efforts, important supply chains remained uninterrupted and challenges around provision of service were overcome..

Each company in the report has been supported by a private equity or venture capital firm, whose investment of time, experience and money has been instrumental in their coronavirus response.

Michael Moore, BVCA Director General, said:

“The pandemic brought with it a host of challenges, not just for businesses, but for us all. It is fantastic to see so many brilliant examples of private capital backed companies not only rising to these challenges in efficient, agile, and exceptional ways, but in ways that are holistic – benefitting individuals and communities too.

“Private equity and venture capital bring excellent value to the United Kingdom – both economic and social – and this report illustrates the wider benefits of their investments.”

Mo Merali, Partner and Head of Private Equity, Grant Thornton UK LLP, said:

“As a country and an industry, the past year has undoubtedly been testing and challenging for all of us. It has presented new challenges to management teams who have steered their companies, their employees, customers, suppliers and stakeholders through turbulent and uncertain times.

“They have been forced to adapt quickly to the new environment and we wanted to support BVCA in recognising the extraordinary efforts made by private equity backed companies across the country over the past twelve months. This report celebrates how the companies have managed to adapt and continue operating successfully, while also providing much needed support to their teams and local communities throughout the pandemic.”
