BVCA announces leadership transition

Due to the evolving nature of the organisation's agenda, Mark Florman, Chief Executive of the BVCA, intends to stand down from that post as of May 1st 2013 and assume the role of Strategic Adviser and Industry Ambassador. This will enable him to build on his work linking private equity and venture capital to the urgent and immediate agenda of promoting economic growth in Britain and Europe and becoming part of a broader and bolder new approach to shaping economic and social policy in the UK and EU, while also allowing him to develop other interests.

The BVCA Board is delighted to announce that it has appointed Tim Hames, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Policy at the BVCA, to succeed Mark as he changes position. Tim is a former Lecturer in Politics at Oxford University, ex-chief leader writer, columnist and Assistant Editor at The Times and has served as Special Adviser to the Speaker of the House of Commons. He started with the BVCA in January 2009. He will revert to the title of Director-General of the BVCA.

As part of this announcement Mark Florman said:

"I am very proud of what the BVCA and the industry has achieved over the past two years. The course ahead is now to help guide wider industrial and financial policy across Europe and return the continent to a position of renewed global competitiveness - our funds will continue to invest and be active and responsible stewards of businesses; I look forward to helping the industry prosper. This move will also allow me to spend more time with the Centre for Social Justice in its important social policy work"

Tim Hames commented:

"I am honoured to be taking the helm of the BVCA at this very significant time for the sector. Mark Florman has been an extraordinary Chief Executive over the past two years and I look forward to benefiting from his experience and wisdom in my forthcoming responsibilities as Director-General."

Simon Clark, Chairman of the BVCA, added:

"The challenges and demands placed on the BVCA have increased enormously over the past few years and it seems obvious to me that they will become even more intense in the period to come. We need to be imaginative in how we deploy our talent and I believe this internal leadership transition will allow us to exercise influence even more effectively as Mark assumes his externally facing and more greatly political role."
