BVCA announces winners of Wales Management Team Awards 2018

Exceptional enterprises across Wales are being celebrated tonight at the 10th annual BVCA Management Team Awards.

The outstanding companies will be picking up their prizes for their phenomenal performances over the past year. Taking place at our annual dinner in Bath, the BVCA Management Team Awards, produced in association with Grant Thornton UK LLP, recognise and showcase companies that are backed by private equity and venture capital funds and which have excelled in their field. All of the winners will now go forward to the national final to compete against our other regions, before the national winners are announced at the BVCA Gala Dinner on 29 November in London.

Rhian Elston, Chair of the Wales judging panel and Investment Director at the Development Bank of Wales, said: “The vibrancy and entrepreneurial spirit of the Welsh business scene is well and truly reflected in this year’s BVCA Management Team Awards. Wales winners

Henry Howard Finance – Large Company Management Team

Backed by Cabot Square Capital


Henry Howard Finance is a business finance provider for SMEs and the largest independent finance house in Wales. Based in Newport, the company has provided financial support to over 20,000 different UK businesses across a variety of sectors. Cabot Square Capital invested in 2014.

Judges' comments: “We were impressed by this great business, particularly its top-line growth and margins.”


Orbis Education & Care – Mid-Market Management Team

Backed by August Equity


Orbis Education & Care is the leading provider of education and residential services for children and young adults with high acuity Autism Spectrum Condition in Wales. August Equity invested in the Cardiff-headquartered business in 2016.

Judges' comments: “A strong team, with a new FD, amazing numbers, great focus, growth by acquisition and developing their own sites, all made Orbis a deserving winner.”


Biological Preparations – Growth Management Team

Backed by NVM Private Equity


Biological Preparations is a Cardiff-based specialist in in the development of biotechnology solutions for a wide range of sectors including food and drink, water treatment, agricultural and cleaning services.

Judges' comments: “We were very impressed with the management team’s success in redirecting the businesses’ focus in recent years towards their own branded products, while maintaining good margins, augmenting second-tier management, and achieving strong bookings for FY17 and FY18.”


Vizolution – Venture-backed Management Team

Backed by Development Bank of Wales, HSBC and Notion Capital


Based in Swansea and with offices in Bristol, London and Canada, Vizolution is a digital tech company which works with leading financial institutions, utilities companies and telcos to enhance the customer journey.

Judges' comments: “The top line growth particularly stood out, along with Vizolution’s stellar customer portfolio and its work in bringing on board a corporate investor. In summary, great commercial and technological focus.”


Biological Preparations – Business Transformation Management Team

Backed by NVM Private Equity


Judges' comments: “We were so impressed with the management team’s redirection of the business in recent years we decided to award Biological Preparations both the Growth Management Team award and the Business Transformation Management Team award.”
