BVCA celebrates responsible investment champions

The winners of the BVCA Responsible Investment Awards 2018 were revealed today at the annual BVCA Summit in London, recognising the private equity and venture firms who have demonstrated and outstanding commitment to ESG practices over the past year.
These awards – sponsored by Ramboll and with Responsible Investor as media partner – are a showcase of how our industry continues to embrace responsible investment policies, both at the firm level and in its engagement with the companies it invests in.
The winners of the BVCA Responsible Investment Awards 2018 are:
Mayfair Equity Partners
Category: Firms with less than £1bn under management
Judges’ comments: “We were particularly pleased to see that Mayfair have adopted their ESG approach based on the BVCA’s Responsible Investment Toolkit and have clearly explained the steps taken to drive improvement.”
Coller Capital
Category: Firms with more than £1bn under management
Judges’ comments: “We were very impressed with the extent of senior level buy-in at Coller and the degree of ESG advocacy and thought leadership in this space. This was a difficult decision, with an honourable mention to The Carlyle Group for a strong entry.”
Future Industrial Services (backed by NorthEdge Capital)
Category: Responsible Portfolio Company
Judges’ comment: “We valued Future Industrial’s clear and concise approach to ESG, especially noting that staff incentives are tied to ESG performance. It was another difficult decision, with an honourable mention to Go Plant, backed by Endless.
Adinah Shackleton, Head of ES at Permira, and Chair of the BVCA Responsible Investment Advisory Group, said:
“The UK private equity and venture capital industry continues to demonstrate its commitment to embedding ESG throughout the investment process. All the winners of the 2018 BVCA Responsible Investment Awards are shining examples of this and deserve to be proud of their achievements. Congratulations to all of the winners for their efforts.
The awards were launched in 2011 and every year we continue to see the industry progress in this space with ESG consideration now a core component of many firms’ investment strategies and portfolio management. The quality of submissions remains excellent, and in particular this year we were impressed with the range of portfolio company entrants across sectors, backed by a range of GPs from venture capital to large buyouts.
These awards are an excellent platform to showcase leadership in responsible investment and we would strongly encourage firms working hard to progress on their ESG journey and enter the 2019 awards.”
