Leading Scottish businesses pick up management awards

The BVCA is pleased to announce the winners of the Scotland Management Team Awards 2019.
The winners were presented with their awards last night at the BVCA’s annual Scotland Dinner at The Balmoral in Edinburgh and will now be candidates for the National Management Team Awards which will be announced at the BVCA’s Gala Dinner in London on 28 November.
Produced in association with Grant Thornton UK LLP, these awards and are our annual showcase for the best businesses in the UK backed by private equity and venture capital.

Edinburgh’s Miller Homes one of the UK’s largest privately owned housebuilders with a strong footprint in the Midlands, North and Scotland.
Judges’ comments: Miller Homes’ strong performance over recent years, which includes rising revenues and margins, as well as their strong KPIs, in a tough market makes it worthy of special recognition. The management team, led by John White, Chris Endsor and Ian Murdoch, have grown the business organically and expanded across the UK, working hard to establish great relationships with its subcontractors and its staff. It is a true Scottish brand.

CMS Window Systems designs, manufactures and installs PVCu and aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling systems, headquartered in Cumbernauld.
Judges’ comments: Since their inception in January 2006, CMS has had significant and continued success, and is now one of the top designers, manufacturers and installers of PVC and aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling systems in the country, working with some of the biggest names in the UK construction industry. The judges were particularly impressed with its approach to corporate and environmental, taking part in food drives, setting up an innovation hub and a strong focus on recycling its waste.

From its head office in Fife, Exterity is an enterprise video specialist, allowing businesses to distribute broadcast quality digital TV and video over the internet.
Judges’ comments: The management team, led by Colin Farquhar, Mike Allan and Simon Ross, have created a business which today is regarded as a leader in its field. Since its founding in 2001 it has experienced rapid growth, particularly over the last decade, which has seen Exterity grow revenue, profits and staff numbers. It has a truly global reach with offices across the world and its products are now deployed in over 50 countries.

Smarter Grid Solutions is a leading software company for the energy sector, and is based in Glasgow.
Judges’ comments: Jim Kent and his team have created an industry-leading product at Smarter Grid Solutions, resulting in a business which has performed incredibly well in a competitive market. They have successfully transitioned to a software product model, expanded internationally – including clients in the US and Germany – and created a trusted reputation and brand, underpinned by the management team’s strong technical capabilities. There is huge potential for further growth.
