The BVCA’s ‘Venture capital in the UK’ 2025 report sets out the latest research on the scale of venture capital investment across the nations and regions of the UK. It found that the VC industry played a bigger role in the UK economy in 2024, increasing both investment and fundraising activity compared to 2023.

This report estimates the current direct economic activity of UK companies supported by private equity and venture capital firms within the UK economy in 2025. This provides a snapshot of the direct economic footprint of activity supported by private equity and venture capital investments - as measured by employment, employee earnings, and gross domestic product (GDP) in 2025. 

This report demonstrates the activity of the UK private equity and venture capital industry in 2024. The statistics in this report are the results of the BVCA’s Investment Activity Study, covering fundraising, business investments and business exits. Data is sourced from a detailed member survey, supplemented by data from third party sources.

Yorkshire, the Humber and the North East of England are exciting destinations for private capital, whose investment is supporting the development of over 800 businesses in the wider region. These businesses bring real value to local communities through the 230,000 jobs they support. 

This final report sets out the recommendations and key findings of the Pensions and Private Capital Expert Panel.This work builds on the Expert Panel’s interim report, published in September 2024. As highlighted in that report, the UK’s world-leading private capital fund industry offers a huge opportunity for UK DC pension savers to benefit from greater investment in the country’s innovative growth companies.

The BVCA's latest Annual Review highlights the wide-ranging issues the association has addressed on behalf of the industry over the past 12 months, as well as detailing how the BVCA has supported the development of the industry through events, training and other activities.

This report is co-written by partners including the Impact Investing Institute, the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA), ImpactVC and Better Society Capital.

This report marks the fourth edition of Level 20 and the BVCA’s analysis of gender and ethnicity representation across the UK private equity and venture capital industry.

The BVCA’s annual ESG survey, now in its third year, sets out a series of metrics which private equity and venture capital firms use to track progress within their investee companies.  

This is the 17th annual report on the performance of portfolio companies, a group of large, private equity (PE) owned UK businesses that met defined criteria at the time of acquisition. Its publication is one of the steps adopted by the PE industry following the publication of guidelines by Sir David Walker to improve transparency and disclosure, under the oversight of the Private Equity Reporting Group (PERG).

The BVCA’s Vision initiative, in partnership with Grant Thornton and Santander, continues to highlight the best management teams backed by private capital across the whole of the United Kingdom. This year to recognise the incredible ways that our members support and work with their portfolios to create value, we are also celebrating the GPs who backed the winning businesses.

The BVCA report, Venture Capital in the UK, sets out the scale of investment in VC sector in nations and regions across the UK. It also addresses what is needed from pension investment reform and the scale-up funding ecosystem in order to unlock the capital that can help drive businesses and growth in the UK.

The aim of the report is to encourage further collaboration in the impact economy, to invite investors interested in sustainable finance and impact investing to consider the UK for the establishment of funds, products, and services and for the UK to continue to lead the way in market development.

The Expert Panel’s interim recommendations call for a series of structural, technical and wider policy options designed to contribute towards better outcomes for UK savers in DC pension schemes and greater investment in high growth businesses in the UK. The recommendations are designed to assist industry, policymakers, regulators and other stakeholders to develop solutions to the public policy challenges of enhanced pension prospects and improved economic growth.
