The BVCA and Impact Investment
Impact investors intentionally seek to achieve positive, measurable, social and/or environmental impact alongside a financial return. In the UK, it is one of the fastest growing investment approaches.
Policy
The BVCA’s policy work in this area spans UK, EU and US legal and regulatory developments affecting private capital firms and their funds’ portfolio companies.
- We work closely with our members to track and respond to developments in UK sustainability regulation, including UK climate reporting rules based on the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, and the FCA’s proposed Sustainability Disclosure Requirements. The BVCA's advocacy on SDR aims to ensure, amongst other things, that the proposed ‘sustainable impact’ label works for private capital funds.
- We are also closely engaged on EU sustainability regulation, working with Invest Europe and others to contribute to the development of various frameworks, such as SFDR, CSRD and CS3D.
- Similarly, we engage regularly with US industry associations, including ILPA and the AIC, on the SEC’s evolving approach to sustainability regulation and its impact on the US and global markets.
Research
The BVCA's research is key for our industry advocacy. The aim is to provide robust insights that enable a better understanding of the contribution of private capital to the UK economy. Impact Investor Knowledge Hub
Our interactive knowledge hub examines the current landscape in the UK and the role private capital plays, in addition to outlining how impact investing works and signposting tools for best practice approaches to measuring, managing, and disclosing impact.
The BVCA has been at the forefront of the Impact Investment landscape for coming up to a decade now, bringing together professionals from across the industry to identify best practice, engage with policymakers and other key market players to advocate for the industry, to bring more capital into impact and develop frameworks for measuring impact. Impact investing is a way to drive real change for businesses, people and society, whilst generating market rate financial returns.
