Day 2

Hot Topic Roundtables

The second morning of activities will provide an opportunity for LPs and GPs to deepen discussions around pertinent issues that are hot topics, whether from a global perspective or from a European perspective. A complete range of topics will be discussed to ensure that everyone involved can fully benefit.

Topics include

  • Brexit and beyond
What are the implications for investing in the UK and the EU? What does it all actually mean in terms of capital flows and investment opportunity? Has the pace of investment slowed? What are the future options on the table?
  • What next for ESG?
What processes are LPs and GPs putting in place, what benefits are they seeing, and how will ESG be measured and managed going forwards?
How can investors invest in the energy sector while maintaining a focus on carbon reduction?
  • Diversity:
How important is it? What do LPs expect to see from GPs and why? What are GPs doing about it?
  • LPACs:
Are lines of responsibility and conflicts of interest becoming increasingly complex? How should decision-making processes evolve to respond to this?
  • Terms and alignment:
What has changed in terms of alignment in the past few years? With an abundance of co-investment activity, and with a market at the top of the cycle, what does the future hold for terms and alignment?
  • Small cap:
If small-cap opportunities can generate greater returns, what can LPs do to maximise opportunities internationally with limited time and resource?
  • European venture – should American investors care?
European venture has seen a revolution in recent years, not just in terms of investment activity, but the returns are coming through to. This roundtable will ask if North American LPs believe they have enough opportunity on their doorstep or if there are now compelling reasons to look across the Atlantic.
  • Impact:
According to Sir Ronald Cohen, social impact investing is the new venture capital. How are LPs and GPs responding to this? Are we at the cusp of a tipping point in terms of recognising the opportunity in impact investing? What experiences have LPs had so far?
  • Emerging managers
What defines an emerging manager, what should change from fund 1 to 3, and are LPs changing their programmes to access emerging managers? In the venture space, to access new technologies will new managers have better, more differentiated knowledge by definition?

Please note the topics are subject to change so that we can ensure we fully cater to attendees based on their wishes.

Venue: Wilson Sonsini Goodrich Rosati, 1 Market Street, San Francisco, CA 94105
