Export bans, anti-lockdown protests and vaccine hesitancy - the politics of how countries can exit from this phase of the COVID-19 crisis into a more stable and enduring economic recovery are laden with tensions, both at home and with partners abroad. Six months on from the landmark US election and following the end of the Brexit transition period, our panel will revisit geopolitical trends affecting deal making across the UK and Western Europe in the year ahead, and as a result what investment teams and committees should consider in their political and regulatory due diligence. This panel will cover:
• Where is perceived mishandling of the pandemic likely to lead to greater political instability?
• What impact will social upheaval have on sustainability and environmental policymaking?
• How quickly will Europe’s digital sovereignty strategy take effect?
• What do increasingly strained relations with China mean for investing in both the UK and Europe?
