Michael Moore: In conversation with Scott Ramsower and Nizar Tarhuni



Overview

The BVCA are introducing a new series of fireside chats entitled ‘Michael Moore: In Conversation with…’ which are kindly supported by PitchBook.

The series will shine a light on the current socio-economic climate by offering prominent figures within the industry a unique opportunity to share their perspectives and insights. For our inaugural event of the series we will be hearing from a renowned US institutional investor exploring how cross-border relations, private equity and venture capital asset classes and investment strategies have been impacted by global social, political, economic and environmental events.

Scott Ramsower, Co-Head of Private Equity Funds, Teacher Retirement System of Texas 



Scott Ramsower co-leads the Private Equity Funds Team at the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS). Through his role at TRS, Scott has oversight responsibilities for the group’s approximately $33 billion private equity fund investment portfolio. In addition, he is a member of the Private Equity Investment Committee and Management Committee, through which he assists in the strategy and development of the overall private equity team and portfolio. Scott is also a member of the ILPA Board of Directors and an ILPA Faculty Member, helping to educate fellow practitioners in the private equity industry.

Prior to joining TRS in 2010, Scott was in the New York office of AlpInvest Partners, a leading private equity investor with over €35 billion in AUM. At AlpInvest, Scott focused on evaluating new private equity fund commitments to various strategies around the globe. Prior to AlpInvest, Scott was an associate in the equity research department of Morgan Stanley. Previously, he also worked in the consulting practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Scott received a BBA, Finance from Texas A&M University.


Nizar Tarhuni, Senior Director, Institutional Research and Editorial, PitchBook 



Nizar Tarhuni leads the Institutional Research and Editorial department at PitchBook, managing the firm’s analyst coverage across private equity, venture capital, M&A, emerging technology and quantitative research practices. He also oversees PitchBook’s news and publishing teams. Tarhuni is credited for developing PitchBook’s first institutional-grade research product. Under his leadership, the team has grown from three asset-class focused analysts to a team of over 25 global analysts providing thematic asset-class research, private investment benchmarks and emerging technology research, among other offerings.

Previously, he served as PitchBook’s lead private equity analyst and launched the firm’s emerging technology coverage in 2015. He has been regularly featured in the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Bloomberg and the Financial Times, among other publications.

Tarhuni holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from Linfield College. He is based in PitchBook’s Seattle office.
