Investing with integrity: supporting businesses through the pandemic


Join Michael Moore (BVCA Director General), Suzi Gillespie (BVCA Head of Research), Sara Rajeswaran (BVCA Director of External Affairs) and panelists from the heart of private equity and venture capital to discuss the findings of the BVCA’s flagship Investment Activity Report. Using a comprehensive dataset collected from BVCA members, we are able to use data to tell the story of 2020 for private equity and venture capital, highlighting investment trends, how our members have supported their investee companies through the pandemic and which sectors grew in 2020. Our panelists will reflect on the data and provide their views on whether these trends are short term or here to stay.

Kerry Baldwin, Managing Partner, IQ Capital and BVCA Chair 

Kerry co-founded IQ Capital in 2006 and has over 20 years deep-tech venture capital experience. Originally with BDO Stoy Hayward, she joined Venture Technologies in 1998, investing in the first wave of UK deep-tech companies and has focussed on deep tech early stage technology over her five funds which invest from seed to £30m to portfolio outperformers.

Kerry specialises in GTM, Strategic Marketing, Competitive Intelligence and heads up IQ’s cybersecurity, supervisory tech, big data and neuro-tech portfolio. She sits on several boards including FNA, CyberSmart, BMLL Technologies, CybSafe, Divido, Neurovalens and Synthesized, and has conducted several exits and IPOs.

She is known as a contributor to best practice in venture capital, from ESG and a 2018 in-depth study on Investment Committee best practice and decision making across Private Equity and Venture Capital. She is the Chair of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA) and a Fellow in Entrepreneurship at the University of Cambridge (Judge Business School).

Suzi Gillespie, Head of Research, BVCA 

Suzi is the Head of Research at the BVCA and ensures that the BVCA is at the forefront of crucial analysis of trends and issues surrounding venture capital and private equity and the impact of the industry on the economy.

Suzi works closely with external researchers and builds relations with industry trade bodies, member research teams, think tanks and research consultancies to identify areas for partnership and enhance the BVCA’s research offering for our members. Suzi is particularly interested in potential collaborations around Diversity & Inclusion and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) topics.

Suzi’s team also delivers the BVCA’s two annual flagship research reports – the Report on Investment Activity and Performance Measurement Survey.

Michael Moore, Director General, BVCA 

Over the past 30 years he has operated at senior levels in both politics and business. In his political career he was a Member of Parliament for 18 years and served in the Cabinet at the time of the Coalition as Secretary of State for Scotland.

After his period as a minister he served as European Business Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister. He also successfully piloted legislation through Westminster which enshrines the UN’s ‘0.7%’ aid spending commitment in UK law.

Following the 2015 General Election Michael became a Senior Adviser at PwC, working with boards and ‘C-suite’ executives on the strategic implications of Brexit and other political issues.

Sara Rajeswaran, Director, External Affairs, BVCA 

Sara Rajeswaran is the BVCA’s Director of External Affairs. Prior to joining the BVCA in 2021, she worked in the UK Government as Special Advisor to the Environment Secretary. Before her time in government she was Executive Director for Government Affairs and Devolved Nations at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry; Associate Director at Edelman; Deputy Head of the BME Research Unit at Policy Exchange; and Chief of Staff to the CEO and Strategy Adviser to the Chairman of Network Rail.

Prior to that Sarah spent 4 years working for the Conservative Party in opposition as their Transport Special Adviser. Sara has co-authored A Portrait of Modern Britain with Rishi Sunak and was researcher to Professor Alison Wolf for her book The XX Factor: How Working Women Are Creating A New Society.

Sara originally trained as an opera singer at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama and she maintains her passion for the performing arts as a Trustee of Sedos and Chair of London Drama Societies.

Its investors have invested over £1.1billion via Endless and include 6 of the Top 10 Universities globally, some of the world’s largest Charitable and Research Foundations and Family Offices of leading global entrepreneurs.
